Program
Djanet – Tinamali
Departure from Europe or Algiers to Djanet. Our team will welcome us at the airport late in the evening.
Day 1 · El Berj
We depart for the Tadrart massif and explore the region of El Berdj, which is composed of wide canyons bordered by sandstone cliffs. Here we can contemplate our first paintings and engravings.
Day 2 · Moul N’Aga
We cross immense and impressive arches, including the gigantic and famous «cathedral» of Tamezguida. We discover new paintings, mainly from the Bovidian period. We continue on our journey and arrive at the yellow dunes of Moul N’Aga, which are characterized by a sandstone castle in the shape of a N’Aga (camel). This is an ideal place to observe a wonderful sunset.
Day 3 · In Tehak
We depart towards the Oued while crossing the landscapes of In Tehak, which is home to arches, paintings, and engravings. As we progress, the sand changes color from white to yellow to orange-yellow. We cross the plateau and navigate in the heart of a very peaceful sea of sand bordered by brown mountains.
Day 4 · Tin Merzouga
We follow the immense canyon of In Djaren, whose cliffs have been sculpted by erosion and contain paintings and engravings documenting the great climatic changes that have marked the evolution of the region, from the great wildlife to domestic animals. Through this labyrinth, we progress towards the pearl of the Tadrart: Tin Merzouga, one of the highest dunes in southeast Algeria, culminating at more than 1,300 meters high. Majestic dunes with saffron and red colors, rocky peaks, and a trip to the planet Mars in the heart of the desert. For the most courageous, climb the mythical dune and enjoy a 360-degree view, a sunset, or a sunrise.
Day 5 · Tissetteka
Bohediane, a real labyrinth to which erosion and wind have given sumptuous forms (the arches of Oued Bohediane, the rock of the «world cup»). We progress to the site of Tissetteka to visit the incredible Tin Abadène canyon.
Day 6 · Tiska
We leave the Tadrart for the Tiska plateau, a mountain located about 50 km south of the airport of Djanet and culminating at 1,553 meters of altitude. During the day, we discover another testimony of the rock art, benches of fossilized sandstone (algae, lamellibranches), as well as engravings.
Day 7 · Djanet
We reach the site of Tagharghart to contemplate the very beautiful and famous engraving of «The weeping cow». We return to Djanet with a visit to the old city, the local market, and the possibility to take a shower. We install our last camp in the dunes before joining the airport around midnight.
For unforeseeable reasons (traffic, flight, case of force majeure, climate, etc.) and for the good progress of your trip, our guide may be required to adapt the program.
